Tidal shared its new policies regarding AI-generated music, announcing that starting today, tracks identified as 100% AI-generated will no longer be monetizable. "Tidal's priority is ensuring royalties go to original works directly produced, written, and performed by people," the company stated. Starting July 15th, Tidal will label tracks identified as fully AI-generated with an icon. The platform plans to eventually extend labeling to music that is "substantially AI-generated" as detection tools improve. Tidal will also begin enforcing an expectation that content distributors properly label AI-generated music. In an effort to deter AI tools that "exploit an individual's or group's music, name or likeness," the platform will remove or block AI-generated music associated with fraudulent activity, including high-volume uploads and unusual streaming patterns. The move follows similar policies from competitors: Spotify launched a verification program in April with green checkmarks for confirmed human artists, while Deezer developed detection tools and a public website for scanning playlists across platforms to identify AI-generated tracks.
